Hey everyone, I'm the teacher for this class, Joey Stark. Professor Daphne Marin-Booth has retired and passed this class over to February Fortescue, who I have taken over from. I'm thrilled at the chance to teach this class as a Film Studies graduate and a horror-film fan! There have been several changes made, most notably this class is now a one term class. The assignments have also been re-done completely, and thus anyone can take this class, even if you've taken it in the past. This class will focus on the study of different monsters and creatures portrayed in film. We will examine a multitude of creatures like Ghosts/supernatural, Zombies, the Boogeyman/Freddy Kruger, Vampires, Werewolves, Aliens, etc.... This class will focus on the different monsters/creatures we have seen from the early cinema to modern day perception. We will show the basic "rules" of these monsters and how over time the "rules" have changed on how they act. Also we will compare the monsters in cinema to those in the Harry Potter Universe and how they relate to each other. I will mention films that are family oriented & more adult oriented just to show the wide spectrum of how monsters are used in film. If you wish to view the movies and are underage, feel free to ask your parents permission to get them to rent the movies for you. Also, I know there are many many many monster movies out there, but I am taking the most well known movies and some that seem to challenge the conventional thought of the monsters. I can't mention all movies, though I wish I could.

***DISCLAIMER*** Since some of these films are rated "R" (American rating meaning no one under the age of 17 can view them without a parent or guardian) I will be taking out most of the graphic content due to the ages of the students on HOL. This is just precaution. However, there may be some content that will be mentioned but it will be purely kept at a PG-13 level. If you feel that this class is too much for you once you have started it, feel free to email me and I will drop you from the course.
